Choosing Happiness Habits: Using the Enneagram, Mindfulness & Play
Jan 7 @ 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

instinctual body banner-600x

Do you find yourself too busy to have fun? Are you frequently being drawn back into thinking about difficult things? Maybe life is just feeling hard and unsatisfying?

There has been an enormous amount of research recently on the body-mind connection, brain science, and the habits and behaviors of happy people. We also know that the Enneagram helps us profoundly in understanding our own desires, needs, and habits. In this series, we will explore choices we can make to create more self-understanding, self-acceptance, and happiness.

A truly happy person thinks more clearly and openly and is more likely to affect others in a positive way and to attract good things in their life. Join us in this experiential workshop to find out how you can create happiness habits that will bring you more joy, ease, and a life you want to live! Knowledge of your own Enneagram type required.

The Enneagram and Your Inner Family
Feb 7 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

The EnneagramGurdjieff taught that we are not one unified person, but a collection of many separate selves. Various psychological systems also recognize we are made of many parts. We will explore how our ego uses a multitude of separate selves to enliven and strengthen our particular Enneagram personality type.

Becoming aware of and including these often-unconscious parts of our inner family is a key step of the journey of awakening, which is always about coming back to our innate wholeness. We will practice listening to each inner self’s unique perspective to bring these disparate parts of ourselves into one harmonious whole.

This event is part of the MN International Enneagram Association programming. It is free to MN-IEA members. 1st-time guests can attend for free. A $45 membership gives you all MN-IEA events for free, except for national presenters.

Voice Medicine: Chanting & Laughing
Mar 23 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

As a longtime singer and a Certified Laughter Yoga Leader, chanting and laughing have been an integral part of my life! I started singing as a little girl and it has always been a way for me to keep connected with my deepest sense of self—to a place that I find difficult to explain with words. When I found Laughter Yoga, I found it also brought a deep sense of connection, this one with a distinctly joyful affect!

In this Energy Medicine Salon, I welcome the opportunity to explore more consciously the effect on our being of using our voices in these ways.

Tones come through the human channel as unique and varied voices, even though many say all sound comes from a primordial and common source. There are various theories about certain tones corresponding to and/or eliciting specific energetic responses, but what I find most interesting is how people produce and respond to tone differently.

This evening, we will explore:

  • The energetic effect of tones from our individual experience
  • The energetic effect of different vocal expressions of tone
  • The interface between tone and silence
  • Singing meditation
  • Laughter yoga
  • The healing benefits of sound

Advance registration is required. Registration closes the day prior to the event.

Releasing Our Hearts: Working with the Passions & Virtues of the Nine Enneagram Types
Mar 25 @ 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Each of the nine Enneagram types suffers from a core emotional distortion—our type’s Passion. Identified by early esoteric Christians as hamartia, or “missing the mark,” this distortion in our Heart Center blocks our access to states such as Love, or Joy, or Unity, the essential feeling-states of our higher emotional centers. In many of the world’s spiritual traditions, including Sufism, Buddhism, esoteric Christianity, Goddess-centered spirituality, and the Gurdjieff work, releasing our hearts from this bondage is seen as the central aim of spiritual practice.

Join Dave Hall and Katy Taylor for a day of releasing and healing our emotional centers. We will explore the subtleties of our own personal experience with our type’s Passion, and we will engage in practices designed to cultivate and strengthen the spiritual capacities we need to release our Passion’s grip on our lives. As this grip loosens and releases, we begin to develop the innate potentials of our type’s Virtue, the deep emotional capacity of the truly awakened heart.

This workshop will combine presentation, exercises, discussion, and coaching to give all participants a vivid personal experience of the transformative journey from Passion to Virtue.

To benefit fully from this workshop, a working knowledge of your Enneagram type is necessary.

Lunch is BYO hot or cold—the Fellowship Hall where we eat has a full kitchen!

The Journey from Dualism to Wholeness: Learning to Live the Law of Three
Oct 7 @ 9:00 am – 5:30 pm

Our Western culture, our family upbringing, and even the way our brains are wired all support a dualistic perspective on life. Our lives begin with a banishment from the oneness of the womb into an either/or world of pleasure vs. pain and good vs. bad. At some primal level, we even approach our spiritual work as an attempt to transcend our humanity and become a different, more “holy” being.

What if, as Gurdjieff and the mystical paths of most faith traditions have taught, we don’t have to live constantly in this land of duality? What if we could learn how to integrate body, heart, and mind, how to trust the deeper wisdom of Third Force, restoring us to a more whole, mysterious, and inclusive perspective? From this place, we suffer less, enjoy our lives more, and live with more ease, clarity, and compassion.

Join Dave Hall and Katy Taylor for a day of heartfelt, embodied exploration of how living the Law of Three can radically transform our experience of ourselves in the world. This is a highly experiential workshop, so wear clothing you feel comfortable moving in and come ready to explore and play with your fellow seekers in the Enneagram community!

Unfolding the Heart: The Journey of Forgiveness
Oct 18 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

This is a 4-part series: October 18th & 25th, November 1st & 15th.

Is there anything between you and being at home in yourself? For most of us, there is, a lot of the time. Come explore what gets in the way of a free and open heart and what we can do about it—using the wisdom of the Enneagram, mindfulness, and your own loving presence.

In this 4-part series, we’ll dive deep into the false type assumptions, stories, and beliefs that get in the way of forgiving ourselves and others. With practices to engage all three centers, we’ll inquire into, come to understand, and meet with compassion the ways that we block our hearts. And we’ll courageously try on new ways of being, feeling, and thinking to forge new neural pathways and create a life worth living.

Women’s Yoga, Evening Practice–November 30th cancelled!
Nov 30 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm

This class is cancelled Thursday, November 30th as I’ll be out of town. See you on the 7th!

This class meets weekly on Thursdays from 7:30-9:00 pm.

Relax, renew, and restore with SomaYoga, Yin Yoga, meditation, and embodiment practices specifically designed for a woman’s body, heart, mind, and soul.

Yoga, as we practice it in the US, has been developed by men for a man’s body, not a woman’s. Our curves, our different hormonal cycles, our neurological wiring, and the body tyranny we face in our culture… these all call out for a different way of practicing.

Women’s yoga, as I’ve been studying and practicing it, is about creating space for you as a woman to express and be all of yourself through your body. It is a way of inhabiting your body in an inquisitive way, of coming home to how a pose can flex, move, curve, and flow to feel good and opening and inviting in your woman’s body.

Women’s Yoga is an embodiment practice that includes all impulses of life—messy, chaotic, calm, curvy… however inhabiting your body and life from the inside expresses on the outside. Allowing your body her full expression is what creates the space to deepen your presence and feel more trust and acceptance of yourself. Read more.

I would love to practice with you!

Women’s Yoga, Evening Practice
Dec 7 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm

Read more.

Tea & Poetry
Mar 18 @ 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm

Have you discovered the super powers of tea?

  • Not only does it refresh,
  • And slow you down,
  • And calm your spirits,
  • And gently energize you,

But tea also gives you a chance to cultivate mindful presence with whatever you are engaged with.

We will gather, with tea, to turn our mindful and gentle gaze to poetry.

Read, listen to, and savor the singular beauty of each poem, while engaging in a mindfulness process inspired by the sacred practice of lectio divina.

Share tea, a gluten- and dairy-free treat*, and poetry—all in presence-full company.

Bring poems to share related in some way to the Spring theme of awakening.

* Real-food and low added sugar, too!

Cancelled: Waking Up Within Our Type
Mar 21 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

This workshop series has been cancelled!

We hope to practice with you another time.

As we all know, waking up is hard to do!

Staying awake can be even harder.

In the Enneagram world, Don Riso and Russ Hudson identified nine specific “Wake-up Calls” to remind each of the types how to recognize when they are asleep. Gurdjieff taught that we have to learn how to construct and set our own “alarm clocks” if we want to be wakened from our typical slumber.

Join Dave Hall and Katy Taylor for a 4-part workshop series devoted to the fine art of waking ourselves up.

Together, we will explore how to bring fun, creativity, compassion, and a sense of humor to the project of living more fully awakened lives.

Workshop Cancelled: Wednesdays, March 21st & 28th and April 4th & 11th, from 7:00-9:00 pm.

Women in Love with the Divine
Jul 18 @ 7:30 pm – 8:45 pm

Through original, celticky, and sacred chant and song,

may the door of your heart slip open.

In Sufism, Laila is the deep secret love of God, that fierce and sweet song that stirs the heart for union with the Beloved. Through angelic voice, mountain dulcimer and prayerful intent, she joyfully reminds you Who you truly are.

Katy sings original and medieval chant and song that weaves celtic ornamentation with haunting, mystical invocations and prayers. Her voice creates a bridge between heaven and earth, calling down the angels from on high to join hands and hearts with the goddess of the earth.

Known and deeply appreciated in the Hudson Valley for years, Amy puts the very essence of her entire being into song. She lifts you up into a higher plane with her beautiful, larger-than-life voice.

Note: The Woodstock Sufi Center is above the Burnette Gallery and between Mirabai Books and Catskill Art and Office Supply.

We look forward to singing for (and with ) you!

Introduction to the Instincts
Nov 1 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

The instincts of the Enneagram teachings are the name we give to a group of three flavors of instinctual life-force energies. These are the same energies we share with our animal ancestors.

The instincts supply the fuel for the way our type manifests in the world, so learning about and working with them is a way to understand how your Enneagram type is driven around in the world, how you go on autopilot and lose presence.

In this workshop, we will explore the three instincts, inquire as to how they show up in our lives, and come up with ways to live them in a more balanced manner that promotes growth, transformation, and deeper presence.

Full Voice: The Art & Practice

of Vocal Presence

How can you embody your full presence–through your voice?

How can you speak so people will listen?

What gifts reside deep inside you that are yearning for expression?

How would your life be different if you were “unsilenced?” If your voice were alive, expressive, powerful, and clear?

No matter what you do for a living, you spend a good part of every day in conversation–at work, at home, and in your community. As important as our voices are, few of us know how to embody them to their full potential. Many of us feel self-conscious about how we sound, but don’t know how to make authentic, lasting change in our voices.

Learning to consciously tap the full range of expression available to you in your voice also opens up a fuller range in your bodysoul… and makes it much more likely that your message will reach the minds and hearts of your listeners. Working with your own full voice makes you a more skillful listener as well.

Full Voice is the work of Barbara McAfee–I am in her Full Voice Coach Training Program and this is part of my practicum!

In this highly interactive, practical, and fun workshop, together, we will:

  • Explore our vocal strengths, habits, assumptions, and challenges,
  • Increase vocal awareness, flexibility, and expression using the Five Elements Framework,
  • Identify ways to use voice to project authority, express passion, extend compassion, and convey vision in everyday conversations,
  • Learn how to use our voices to awaken our gifts,
  • And have fun, playing and making sound together!

Logistics:

Friday, November 2nd, from 7:00-8:30
St. Paul Yoga Center, Corner Studio

Thank you for your interest—
to be rescheduled in the New Year!

Do you take mindful time for yourself / yourSelf?

Resting deeply in your true Self is different from watching TV, zoning out with our favorite substance, or cruising around the web

Resting deeply in your true Self usually includes these attributes:

  • slowing down,
  • being quiet and/or still and listening deeply within,
  • connecting with your individual creative expression,
  • being mindfully attuned to whatever you are engaged with,

We especially need this during the holidays!

We will gather, with tea and a gf & df treat*, to rest in ourselves. (*Real food; may include butter.)

We will engage with our creativity, meditate, share, and take time to deeply fill our wells so that we can meet the world with more presence.
