Full Voice: The Art & Practice

of Vocal Presence

How can you embody your full presence–through your voice?

How can you speak so people will listen?

What gifts reside deep inside you that are yearning for expression?

How would your life be different if you were “unsilenced?” If your voice were alive, expressive, powerful, and clear?

No matter what you do for a living, you spend a good part of every day in conversation–at work, at home, and in your community. As important as our voices are, few of us know how to embody them to their full potential. Many of us feel self-conscious about how we sound, but don’t know how to make authentic, lasting change in our voices.

Learning to consciously tap the full range of expression available to you in your voice also opens up a fuller range in your bodysoul… and makes it much more likely that your message will reach the minds and hearts of your listeners. Working with your own full voice makes you a more skillful listener as well.

Full Voice is the work of Barbara McAfee–I am a Certified Full Voice Coach.

In this highly interactive, practical, and fun workshop, together, we will:

  • Explore our vocal strengths, habits, assumptions, and challenges,
  • Increase vocal awareness, flexibility, and expression using the Five Elements Framework,
  • Identify ways to use voice to project authority, express passion, extend compassion, and convey vision in everyday conversations,
  • Learn how to use our voices to awaken our gifts,
  • And have fun, playing and making sound together!

Facilitated Discussion Group of Ecotheologian Rev. Michael Dowd’s ProFuture Faith
Mar 9 @ 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm

8-Session Series, Mondays February 10th to March 30th.

Facilitated by Katy Taylor and Dave Hall.

Dowd claims that having “squandered our inheritance on profligate living,” we are a prodigal species. Industrial civilization and our insatiable appetites have us hurtling toward irreversible consequences – not in some distant future, but right now.

The good news is it’s not too late. At the intersection of science, spirituality, and sustainability is a deep love of life and a passion for our posterity – a ProFuture Faith.

Join eco-theologian, author, and TEDx speaker, Rev. Michael Dowd in a dynamic DVD discussion course that bridges the gap between head and heart, science and faith.

Participants will be guided on a journey that accepts what is inevitable, avoids what is futile, and be inspired to attend to what is urgent. Come home to reality. Embrace a ProFuture Faith! We will watch a 20-minute video segment together and then use the study guide to facilitate discussion.

Mar 29 @ 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm

CANCELLED for Coronavirus Safety!

You give, you work, you sacrifice. But are you brave enough to put yourself at the top of your priority list? To consistently practice aligning with the rhythms of life?

Calling all women who do too much! Self-care isn’t selfish. It’s a revolutionary act. A feminine road back to yourself. And essential self-care changes everything.

You already know this is true. But sometimes, we need a reminder. A skilled guide back to our own inner wisdom. A sacred pause from life’s endless To Do’s … so we can engage with practices that help us return to our deepest, truest vitality.

This self-care mini-retreat is lovingly designed to help busy women harness the healing power of ancient feminine wisdom within their modern lives … so you can reclaim the lasting harmony and happiness that is your birthright.

We will engage with the creative energies of Spring together: renewal, creativity, and reawakening.

Whether you are running your own business or raising a family (or both), you will practice living a meaningful, authentic life, the feminine way: guided from within.

Walk in Beauty, Zoom Unitarian Universalist Service
Aug 16 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am

Sometimes life can feel pretty overwhelming with all that is happening in the world. How do we find our way? What is right action for us? What if the answer were as simple as choosing to walk in beauty in each moment? Join Interfaith Minister and QUUF member Katy Taylor to unpack what it means to walk in beauty and to explore how to make it real in our daily lives.

This service will also include Katy singing, joined by Heidi Mattern.

Find the link to the service, which you can watch anytime after it has premiered here.

Chanting for Community, Healing & Hope–1st & 3rd Thursdays!
Oct 1 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Come sing together via Zoom on 1st and 3rd Thursdays!

We will chant together to create the world we want to live in through our song. We will sing chants from many sources—Thich Nhat Hanh, 12th c. Hildegard von Bingen, Scots Gaelic, local singer/composer Laurence Cole, and many more from the community singing tradition.

Singing is known to help connect us to ourselves and to each other, as well as to calm the nervous system. Who doesn’t need more of that in their lives right now?

I will teach each chant line by line so you can follow along, and then we’ll sing all together. Because of the nature of Zoom (delays due to intermittent connection), you’ll only be able to hear and sing with my voice, but you’ll be able to see others and have the visual experience of singing and being together. You don’t need to be a “singer”—just come and add your voice and heart full of good intentions!

Contact me for the Zoom link to attend no later than 6:00 on the day of the chanting.

Evensong, 1st Sundays
Oct 4 @ 4:00 pm – 4:45 pm

Join me and Elisabeth Haight for a 45-minute, contemplative Christian music prayer service that draws on the Celtic Christian and Taize traditions.

In the summer months, we meet outside, held in and surrounded by the land and ocean at Chetzemoka Park. Please check in to see what we are doing in October before you show up.

If we are at the Park, entering at the main entrance and turn left, you will find us in a shady spot where we gather under the trees. We will maintain physical distance. Please bring your own seating gear and your own mask.
