The Coming of Light

Snow and Light

The Coming of Light by Mark Strand
Even this late it happens:
the coming of love, the coming of light.
You wake and the candles are lit as if by themselves,
stars gather, dreams pour into your pillows,
sending up warm bouquets of air.
Even this late the bones of the body shine
and tomorrow’s dust flares into breath.

The New Year is almost here—it’s almost unbelievable how quickly 2015 has passed…

Even this late it happens…

  • even when my attention is firmly fixed on closing up 2015
  • even when I am relaxing and enjoying the holy-days with friends and family
  • even when I am reviewing and thinking and envisioning how I want to live in 2016
  • even when friendships fall away unexpectedly
  • even this late…

the coming of love, the coming of light…

  • in the intense joy on the face of the highschool junior flying his mosquito drone through the dining room
  • in the contentment of family resting together in front of the woodstove
  • in the simplicity of a shared meal with nowhere to go
  • in the disturbances and concerns of a well-lived life
  • in this present moment

stars gather, dreams pour into your pillows,

  • in this inbetween time
  • in this call to sleep, to rest
  • in the Full Cold Moon, as it’s called, on Christmas, gathered with the stars in the dark sky
  • even this late, I am being called to dream, to vision, to pour my desire and love into the c0-creation of the New Year…

Even this late the bones of the body shine and tomorrow’s dust flares into breath.

May the bones of your body (and more) shine in the New Year!

If you would like to practice opening to the shining of love and light in your life, I have three opportunities for you!

p.s. Do you have friends who would love inspiration and support in living a more present life? I’d love it if you would share this post with them on Facebook!
